Cafe Margaux pays homage King Estate of wine
When Oregon’s King Estate was founded in 1991, the winery was committed to sustainability, quality and adventure.
Co-founders Ed King III and his father, the late Ed King Jr., had a vision for the 600-acre parcel of land previously used to grow hay and pasture cattle. Over the years, acreage has evolved into one of Oregon’s most recognizable and iconic vineyards, with 1,033 acres on the certified Biodynamic estate. Three generations of the King family are involved in the family business, continuing the old-world traditions of sustainable agriculture and artisan winemaking
Part of Oregon’s renowned Willamette Valley region, King Estate is best known for its superb pinot gris and pinot noir.
A menu by Café Margaux’s executive chef Erol Tugrul will pair top King Estate selections such as Domaine pinot gris, the Soldier cabernet sauvignon and King Estate Brut Cuvee. The six-course dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 7 and 9.

Fish and oyster fry on Merritt Island
The Fields, one of Brevard’s pioneering families, loved nothing better than a good oyster fry to celebrate with friends and neighbors. Their Merritt Island homestead, now the Field Manor house museum, brings back that tradition with its sixth annual Oyster and Fish Fry from 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 9.
The dinner features half a dozen fresh oysters, plus fried fish, corn on the cob, potatoes, slaw and your choice of tea, lemonade or water. For drinks with a kick, Bugnutty Brewing Company will have beer for purchase. Wine, too, will be available.
The afternoon bash includes music by the Tommy Mitchell Trio and a silent auction for goodies such as catamaran sailing tours and original works of art.
The fundraiser will help the nonprofit to preserve the home’s original citrus packinghouse and to expand educational opportunities for Brevard students.
Tickets are $45 for adult admission and $10 for admission of children 12 and younger. The grownups can opt to add the $20 alcoholic beverage bundle, which provides five drinks for the price of four.

Space memorabilia featured at charity auction
Bid on space memorabilia online and in person on Saturday, Oct. 9, when the American Space Museum hosts its 17th. Charity Memorabilia Auction.

The auction of more than 300 space-related items will be led by space memorabilia expert Chuck Jeffrey. The collection ranges from astronaut autographs and photos to items flown in space

Rockledge author releases new books
Rockledge resident and national Reader’s Choice award-winning author Leigh Duncan, a familiar name to fans of Harlequin and Hallmark romances, has released her third book in the Sugar Sand Beach series of women’s fiction.
“The Café at Sugar Sand Inn” will be followed by “The Reunion at Sugar Sand Inn” come Oct. 15. The last book in the series, “Christmas at Sugar Sand Inn, is due Nov. 19.
“I’ve wanted to write about strong women and the challenges they face for as long as I’ve been writing,” said Duncan. “I think even in the contemporary romances I wrote for Harlequin and, later for Hallmark, I did that as much the genre allowed. After I turned in the final book in Hallmark’s Heart’s Landing series earlier this year, I decided it was now-or-never time to really focus on women’s fiction.”
Duncan hopes fans, whether female or male, enjoy the temporary respite her books provide.

Titusville Playhouse fills October with cult favorites
Yes, it is currently CULTober time at Titusville Playhouse, 301 Julia St.
Coming right up is the R-rated, “Evil Dead: the Musical,” performed outdoors at the new Shuler Stage. Based on “The Evil Dead,” “Evil Dead 2” and “Army of Darkness,” the show mashes these cult classics into a crazy, funny—and fake bloody—theatrical experience.
This is a pure evil comedy and perhaps the only show in the world to boast a “blood splatter zone” where a section of the audience will get covered in fake blood.
“Evil” runs Oct. 8 to 17 with shows at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 6 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $35 for the orchestra and $38 for Premium Orchestra, aka “Splatter Zone.”
CULTober also features fan fave “Rocky Horror Show, returning to the Playhouse for its eighth season.
The show plays Oct. 22 to 31 with showtimes at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 6 p.m. Sundays. Additional performances are scheduled for 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, and Saturday, Oct. 30. Tickets are $31 to $35.

Titusville museum celebrates diversity in law enforcement
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, the American Police Hall of Fame, 6350 Horizon Dr., Titusville, will host “Diversity in Law Enforcement” to showcase the ground-breaking roles of people of color in policing, from frontier days to the present.
The event includes special presentations, speakers, games, activities and giveaways, and is free with admission to the museum.

Extension office class focuses on canning
Learn the intricacies of food canning at “Canning 101” class hosted by the UF/IFAS Extension Office from 10 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
The class will cover both water bath and pressure canning. Participants will take their food home after class. All materials will be provided.
Cost is $35. Registration closes Oct. 8. The class will be held at the Extension Office, 3695 Lake Road, Cocoa.
