January always calls for a bit of a gastronomic reset as we look to purge ourselves of December’s excesses, and over recent years there has been a growing fashion for avoiding booze and meat the whole month. I’m not opposed to this but I do feel the Prince of Wales gave some sage advice in October, when he spoke publicly about going meat free for one or two days a week. This seems entirely sensible and if you can stretch to one vegan day, with a few dry days in between, perhaps all the better. Moderation is the key and if you can master that trick, there’s no need to wave goodbye to the odd glass of wine in the depths of winter.
