Local businesses and organizations have put together dinners, shows and entertainment for Valentine’s Day weekend in Hays.
For those looking for an all inclusive dining experience, The Fox Theatre, Hilton Garden Inn and The First Methodist Church are all providing dinner shows for a night of romance.
The Fox Theatre in partnership with The Strand has organized The Ultimate Valentine’s Progressive Dinner and Show, taking place Friday night. Doors will open at The Strand at 5:30 and the event will begin with a cocktail hour, followed by a gourmet four course meal prepared by Chef Ryan Sultzer.
Following the main course, the evening will transition over to the Fox ford live entertainment by the Wes Cossman Band. Dinner will go from 5:30-6:30, venues will be moved to the Fox at 7:45 with dessert served prior to the show. The band is scheduled to begin performance at 8:45.
Tickets are available online at https://www. eventbrite.com for $55/ person or $110/couple, to reserve a full table purchase eight tickets and they will automatically assign a table to the name.
The Hilton Garden Inn will provide an intimate dinner this Friday, Saturday and the following Monday from 5-10. Tickets can be purchased at (785) 727-7721 for $60/ ticket. The evening will feature a four course meal for two, starting with a spinach salad sprinkled with bleu cheese and tossed in a citrus dressing followed by an appetizer of bacon wrapped shrimp. The entree choices are a surf and turf consisting of kc strip and shrimp or southwest chicken alfredo. The evening will conclude featuring a chocolate tort filled with berries and cream as dessert.
As a fundraiser for their youth mission trip in July, the First United Methodist Church is hosting “Rocking and Rolling to a Red Heart Valentines Dinner Theatre” next Saturday. The evening will feature a musical performance from Kansas City’s Kerry Beach, a soloist performing classical rock, 40’s, 80’s and pop.
The evening’s menu consists of a tossed salad, smoked pork chops, California mixed vegetables, cheesy mashed potatoes, whole wheat bread, heart shaped chocolate cake with strawberries and whipped cream.
The FUMC will provide a nursery that can be reserved ahead of time, tickets will be sold $15 for adults and $7.50 for kids ages 5 through 12 at (785) 625-3408.
The 11th annual Court Appointed Special Advocators Valentines Dinner has been rescheduled to March 26 from 5-10 at the Strand Event Center. All proceeds from the event will fo to benefit children removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect.
The evening will feature dinner, drinks, live and silent auctions. Tickets can be purchased at CASA of the High Plains, Hays Welcome Center, Eagle Radio and Farm Bureau Financial Services in Wakeeney, tickets are $65 each or $450 for a table of 8.
Other events not including a meal will be provided by Hays Public Library, Hays Community Theatre and Studio 809.
Hays Public Library is hosting “Blind Date with a Book” from 4-5 this Friday. The community is encouraged to come in and pick a mystery book tagged with clues surrounding the book’s theme, snacks and drinks will be provided.
Hays Community Theatre is featuring “Love Letters Desert Show” this weekend, beginning Friday night at 7:30. Each night will feature a different set of local actors.
“Love Letters” is a play chronicling the lives of Andrew Ladd and Melissa Gardener, two children of privilege growing up in the Land of Oz. Andrew is studious and stoic, Melissa is artistic and moody. They have a mutual attraction, but can’t seem to make it work. The play follows the pair as they keep in touch through their letters over the course of several decades.
Friday night will feature Alan and Dawn Gable, Saturday Andy and Dana Stanton and Monday Travis and Pamela Grizzell,. Tickets can be reserved for $15 at https://www.etix.com
Studio 809 will be performing a renaissance show featuring instrumentalists Ben Cline, Viola da Gamba, Tannor Callis, Viola da Gamba, Doug Drabkin, Viola da Gamba and Hilary Shepard Flauto Traverso. Vocalists include Sam Vesper and Devlyn Jochum. The event is catered by Lunch on Lincoln featuring sangria, coffee and a dessert arrangement.
