St. Charles has a new place to imbibe on Main Street.
In late 2021, Tiara and Terrence Curry began working on turning a passion for food and drink into a business. This spring, their hard work paid off and the couple opened The Wine Cafe on Main Street in St. Charles, a space with an inviting indoor atmosphere and spacious patio seating that offers wine, cocktails and food.
Prior to opening The Wine Cafe with his wife, Terrence had a barbecue restaurant, AJB’s BBQ, that he operated with his brother. Tiara worked in accounting, but working for herself was a long-held dream.
Tiara and Terrence Curry are the owners of The Wine Cafe.
“I always knew I wanted to become an entrepreneur,” she says.
Although Terrence had experience as a prior restaurant entrepreneur, they approached menu development, wine selection and other aspects of the business venture as a partnership.
“We worked on everything together,” she says. “Every step of the way, it was always a joint effort.”
Wine is front and center for drink options, and there’s a wide selection available. The Wine Cafe serves red, white, rosé and sparkling wines from across the US and the globe, and it is the first restaurant on Main Street to carry wine from McKelvey Vineyards, a winery near Washington, Missouri.
Customers can order their wine by the glass or sample a few with a tasting or flight, and there are also wine slushies and wine-infused cocktails available. The cocktail menu, created by Tiara, features classic cocktails, like Margaritas and Martinis, and wine-based drinks, like sangria and Mimosas. The spot also offers a few custom cocktails, such as the Strawberry Rose refresher with rosé, strawberry syrup, lime juice and fresh strawberry.
